Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide analogue of tuftsin, a naturally occurring immunomodulatory peptide. It was developed by extending tuftsin's four-amino-acid sequence with a Pro-Gly-Pro tail, improving its stability.
It is studied for its anxiolytic (anti-anxiety), nootropic (cognitive) and immunomodulatory activity, with research exploring its effects on GABAergic signalling, monoamine neurotransmitters and the expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF).
